If you're a computer user that frequently installing drivers or softwares, you might have experienced being asked by windows to insert the Windows XP CD. This can eat some of your time or the worst thing that can happen if you can't find it immediately. And if you can't supply the CD when windows asked it, then you can't perform the installation.
Luckily, you can prevent Windows XP from asking the Windows XP CD by copying the i386 folder from the CD directly to your hard drive (e.g. Drive C). After you copy the i386 folder to your hard drive, the next thing you must do is to instruct Windows that the i386 folder is in the hard drive so the next time it needs the CD it will automatically read it on the hard drive. To do that, just follow these:
- Open Registry editor (Start>Run>Regedit)
- Go your way to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Setup
- On the right pane, Double-click the SourcePath and replace the drive letter in the box on where you have save the i386 folder (e.g. C)
